Farm Bill Update:
THE 2008 FARM BILL HAS PASSED!
The 2008 Farm Bill (Farm Bill (H.R. 2419) was passed with a two-thirds majority on May 22, 2008 by both the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives. This overrides despite President Bush’s veto. The Senate vote was 82-13 and the House of Representatives vote was 306-110.
This bipartisan bill includes a strong nutrition title providing $250 million a year in funding for the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) with the amount indexed for inflation. It also includes significant improvements in the Food Stamp Program and significant funding to bring more fresh fruits and vegetables to our nation's schools.
The funds included in the Farm Bill will go along way to fight hunger in Wisconsin and throughout the Country.
