Civil rights training for all front line staff and volunteers is a requirement of all organizations that receive federal financial assistance through the Hunger Task Force. This includes any and all organizations that receive commodities of The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), the Stockbox Program and funds distributed from the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP, previously known as FEMA funds). This option was developed as an initial and basic training for new volunteers and staff or network sites. Attendance at regularly scheduled in-person training sessions is required annually.
Being treated with dignity and respect is certainly something we all expect and desire. This becomes even more important when we are facing difficult times and are in the position of asking for assistance from others. Our federal government believes this is such a crucial issue that people need an annual refresher to reinforce proper civil rights and responsibilities.
