Vision and Standards

Our Vision

Our Vision

We have a vision here at Hunger Task Force: we see a child enjoying a nutritious breakfast before heading off to school; we see a senior warming up with a hot bowl of soup and a sandwich for lunch; we see a family sitting around the dinner table with a full meal of food. This is our vision, and we are committed to making sure that it happens every day through our network of emergency and supplemental food programs. From the young to the old, we believe that every person has the right to three healthy meals every day. But we don’t stop there—we believe that these three meals should reflect a person’s diet, culture and religion, and should be available to them when they need it and in the neighborhood where they live. We fight to make sure everyone has dignified access to food, both today and tomorrow.

Our Standards

Hunger Task Force is committed to ending hunger in our community. We are also committed to carrying on our mission with the best quality of service to those in need. Simply put, we set the bar for excellence high. Just as we work hard every day to supply emergency food providers with the food necessary to feed the hungry, we require these organizations to commit to the Standards of Excellence. The Standards of Excellence are a set of rules and “best practices” that ensure that pantries, meal programs and homeless shelters serve all people with equality, dignity and respect. They also ensure that food is handled and stored properly in clean, safe facilities. We work closely with our network partners to achieve the Standards of Excellence, and together, we provide service that is second to none in our community.

Evaluating Our Work

Evaluating Our Work

Hunger is a problem every day in our community, so Hunger Task Force constantly evaluates our own work to make sure that the safety net of services we provide stays intact. To do so, we need to talk and listen to the people we serve. We survey pantry users and meal program guests to make sure they are receiving enough food when they need it, food that fits their diets and special needs and the best possible customer service. Hunger Task Force also has a dedicated team that tracks meal statistics and creates maps of local neighborhoods. Maps help us see where the greatest levels of poverty are, and where people need help the most. By literally having our network of providers laid out in front of us, we can prevent duplication of service and can build our affiliated partners into a strong, hunger fighting net across Milwaukee.
