Thank you to all of the great anti-hunger advocates who have contacted Congress and urged them to pass a Child Nutrition bill!
Unfortunately, the House adjourned without voting on Child Nutrition Reauthorization (CNR) by September 30. Instead, they extended the existing Child Nutrition Act until the end of the year. Congress now has the opportunity to consider CNR in its “lame duck” session when they return on November 15, following the November elections.
Since Congress still has time to reauthorize child nutrition programs, we need to continue to remind Congress that they must pass a strong CNR bill which does not cut SNAP (food stamps). Access to healthy meals is vital for a child’s growth--hungry children don’t learn. And as the fourth poorest large city in the nation, it is crucial Congress find a way to responsibly fund child nutrition programs which support hungry kids and their families in Milwaukee today!
