Suppers Are Here! Volunteers Needed to Spread the Word

June 11, 2010

The summer meals program Fueling Young Minds kicked off on June 8. The orange “Free Summer Meals for Kids Here” signs are now up at all the summer meal site locations throughout Milwaukee, but we still need your help!

For the first time, some of the summer meal sites will be serving supper. We want to spread the word that suppers are here! Hunger Task Force is seeking pairs and groups of volunteers to walk neighborhoods near the summer meal sites which are serving suppers and hang signs on the doors of nearby homes so families know that their nearby school is offering three meals a day this summer!

Distributing door hangers can take a few hours or an entire day, depending on your schedule and flexibility. This is a great opportunity for companies seeking to give back to the community with a teamwork activity. It is also ideal for high school and college students, families, community volunteers, and anyone who wants to make sure kids get nutritious meals this summer. It is a great outdoor volunteer activity with a friend, too!

Sign up or learn more by contacting Mary or call (414) 238-6471. Here are some things to remember:

  • All neighborhood canvassers will start their route by meeting at Hunger Task Force (201 S. Hawley Court, just west of Miller Park. Take the Hawley Road exit off of I-94, go south under the expressway, and Hawley Court is the first road on your left. )
  • All neighborhood canvassers must participate in pairs or small groups! At least one volunteer must possess a vehicle to assist in transportation to sites.
  • Dress comfortably! Wear tennis shoes and be prepared to stand/walk around at length.
