The Right to Breastfeed Act passed and we thank all who contacted their elected representatives in support of this important bill’s passage!
On Wednesday, March 10, Governor Doyle signed into law State Assembly Bill 57, the Right to Breastfeed Act. The legislation makes Wisconsin one of the most progressive states in terms of protecting a mother’s right to breastfeed in any public place. The new law permits a mother to breastfeed her child in any public or private location where she is otherwise authorized to be and prohibits any person from interfering with the right of a mother to breastfeed her child. A person who interferes with that right is subject to a forfeiture not to exceed $200 under the general penalty provision under current law.
