No one holds food drives in the summer...help us break that trend!

July 07, 2010

Summertime is the toughest time of year for us to keep Milwaukee’s hungry fed. Kids are especially at risk in the summer. During the school year, meals are provided through government nutrition programs. That goes away in the summer. We have to meet this critical need for children while still keeping up with the high demand for emergency food in Milwaukee.

But, there’s a catch…

Can you guess our three lowest food donation months?  June, July, and August. We understand why. During the summer, folks are more likely to think of vacations, festivals, and getting a tan. Thinking about the homeless trying to find a hot meal and a warm place to sleep during a snowstorm is a much starker picture in December than in July. But make no mistake, summer is the peak time of hunger in our community.

Please consider adding a food drive to your summer activities, events and programs. You can help those in need while having a good time. You will make a huge difference.  Especially now.

It’s easy to register a food drive. Just click here and fill out the form.  You’ll be called by a Hunger Task Force rep and we’ll get you going. If it’s a public event with a food drive, we’ll promote it on our website, through our e-mail blasts, and through our Twitter and Facebook accounts.

Thank you for your time and support!
