Links The Internet can be an extremely useful tool in the fight against hunger and poverty. In our own research and work, we have found the following Web sites to be useful. ACCESS The online portal for Wisconsin residents to find out if they qualify for health and nutrition assistance. The Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) This site provides some of the latest reports and studies on hunger in the nation and offers overviews of major federal food programs. The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities CBPP is a nonpartisan organization and policy institute that conducts research and analysis on a range of government policies and programs. Center on Hunger and Poverty at Brandeis University Established in 1990, the Center brings cutting-edge empirical evidence to the attention of policy makers, the press and the public. Community Food Security Coalition This site contains information related to national community food-security issues as well as action steps to take to influence food-security policy. Bread for the World This is a nationwide Christian citizens' movement seeking justice for the world's hungry people by lobbying national decision makers. Congressional Hunger Center CHC is a nonprofit anti-hunger training organization founded by former Rep. Tony Hall and located in Washington, D.C. CHC also features information about the William Emerson Hunger Fellowship Program. Share Our Strength SOS is committed to addressing both immediate and long-term solutions to hunger and poverty. They support organizations providing emergency food as well as programs working to help low-income individuals manage their own resources. Mazon: A Jewish Response to Hunger Mazon is a national, nonprofit agency which allocates donations from the Jewish community to nonprofit organizations providing food, help and hope to hungry people of all faiths and backgrounds. America's Second Harvest America's Second Harvest is the nation's largest hunger-relief organization, distributing surplus food to more than 23 million Americans each year. Please note that Hunger Task Force is a local, grass-roots organization that is not affiliated with America's Second Harvest. Feeding Children Better This site was developed by America's Second Harvest to address issues of childhood hunger. USDA Food and Nutrition Service The USDA FNS provides information about various nutrition programs and services. Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services DHFS coordinates a number of programs that provide services and nutritious foods to people who may not have enough food, who may not have access to healthy foods, and gives guidance on making healthy food choices. Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction The Wisconsin DPI has more about Wisconsin school breakfast and lunch programs as well as summer feeding programs. |
