Food pantries, meal programs and shelters, not to mention advocacy!
We give away FREE food to 80 local charities that directly feed the hungry in Milwaukee County. In addition, we offer these charities technical support, training, and grant monies to improve the services offered to the hungry.
Where do people go for emergency food?
If anyone is in need of food assistance, we ask that they call 2-1-1 to get referred to a local program in their neighborhood (see our Get Food page).
- A food pantry is a place to get an emergency supply of free, healthy food that lasts for 2-3 days.
- A meal program, also known as a soup kitchen, is a place where people in need can get a free hot meal.
There are 60 food pantries and 20 meal sites/shelters in the Hunger Task Force network.
