Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers interested in volunteering directly at the Hunger Task Force facility are required to attend an orientation session. Orientations are held at Hunger Task Force, 201 S. Hawley Court, last 30-40 minutes and require no advance scheduling. Please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to start time. Orientation dates and times.

Warehouse Volunteers We have the need for warehouse volunteers this summer. The shift times are 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. We ask that you commit to at least a ½ day shift helping us around the warehouse, going out on deliveries with our drivers and other opportunities that arise each summer. Anyone volunteering in the warehouse needs to attend a volunteer orientation. Check here for orientation dates and times.

Deliver and pick up food to the hungry: Ride along and help us pick up and deliver free food for local food pantries and meal programs. We need able-bodied, energetic individuals to commit to a ½ day or full day. We need volunteers daily. Call us today at 777-0483 to sign up or email us!

Community Advocate-Voices Against Hunger: Ongoing
Take that next step by contacting public officials and assisting Hunger Task Force advocacy efforts as a member of Voice Against Hunger, a grassroots group of individuals, organized by Hunger Task Force, committed to fighting hunger and acting for change. One of the ongoing projects is improving the customer service provided to Food Share (food stamp) applicants and recipients by the Milwaukee County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). Volunteers can help by testing DHHS phone lines and interviewing food pantry customers at the Coggs Center. For more information, contact our organizer Laura Richard at (414) 238-6471 or by email at laura@hungertaskforce.org.

Referral Specialist: Ongoing
Hunger Task Force encourages programs serving people with emergency food needs to conduct a brief and simple interview which help pantry staff offer relevant foods and reduce the need for repeat visits. For more information contact (414) 777-0483.

Food Pantry Assistants: Ongoing
Food pantry assistants pack food bags, assist clients with transporting food and intake paperwork. Most pantries request that volunteers are age 16+, able to lift up to 30 pounds and are available long-term for a weekly shift. Food pantry assistants are NOT required to attend Hunger Task Force's orientation to assist with this opportunity.
