Daniel Riff Has Worked with Hunger Task Force for Four Years to Ensure the Stockbox DoorDash Program Benefits Thousands of Seniors Monthly

Hunger Task Force has partnered with DoorDash to provide nutritious food to seniors – directly to their doors – since 2021. This impactful partnership expands access to the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) – known locally in Wisconsin as Stockbox –  to homebound seniors and those who do not live near a traditional pick-up site, with convenience and dignity.

The federal nutrition program provides a box of supplementary food to low-income seniors every month. Hunger Task Force administers the program, packs, and distributes a free box of healthy food to people aged 60+ who meet a monthly income requirement. Each month, nearly 2,000 low-income seniors receive a Stockbox delivered to their doorstop by a Dasher – absolutely free of charge to them. Deliveries through Stockbox DoorDash represents nearly 20% of Hunger Task Force’s total Stockbox distribution to seniors.

“Hunger Task Force has effectively worked delivery into how the organization serves seniors,” said Daniel Riff, Head of Government and Nonprofit Operations at DoorDash. “We have seen tremendous growth from the Hunger Task Force partnership. The Hunger Task Force Stockbox DoorDash program is one of the largest CSFP delivery programs in the country. It’s impressive to see what the Hunger Task Force team has built over the years and how delivery has become a core part of their Stockbox program.”

The program isn’t just a win for seniors – it also boosts income for Dashers.

“We often hear that Dashers really like being able to serve their community while they’re earning income on the DoorDash platform. Dashers really seek these deliveries out,” adds Daniel. ”There is also another piece to it, which is that if you are a Dasher, you may not have a reliable place in the morning to go. It is awesome to have this partnership where Dashers know they can come down to Hunger Task Force in the morning to not only serve their community but also earn income.”

When Dashers arrive at Hunger Task Force, Stockboxes are placed in the warehouse, labeled by household, and are waiting for Dashers to pick them up and deliver them to low-income seniors in need. From pick up to drop off, the process to bring healthy food to seniors in need is simple and convenient.

Hunger Task Force recently celebrated 50,000 deliveries through Stockbox DoorDash.

“We have heard from Hunger Task Force and other partners across the country that delivery is really key for this program to work successfully,” says Daniel. “So, our broader DoorDash team has supported our partners’ advocacy around trying to create more funding for home delivery for the Stockbox/CSFP program so that it can reach everyone that it should be reaching.”

Daniel also notes that the need for delivery continues to grow and is now higher than it was during much of the pandemic. There is significant uncertainty with government funding for different programs, but he says DoorDash remains optimistic that there will still be plenty of opportunity to leverage delivery to ensure federal nutrition programs are accessible for everyone.
