Hunger Task Force Welcomes Two SNAP-Ed Interns

Jul 24, 2025

The principal strength of Hunger Task Force is its compassionate and committed staff. As an anti-hunger organization, Hunger Task Force commits to hiring team members with an array of skills and talents and the cultural competence to best serve our diverse community. Hunger Task Force is excited to welcome two SNAP-Ed interns – Megan and Annastasia – as they assist Hunger Task Force in our mission to end hunger across Milwaukee County by providing MyPlate nutrition education to adults, families and children in the community.

Megan McCarty is a junior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she is studying molecular and cell biology and hopes to work in medicine or nutrition after graduation. This is her second summer serving as an intern at Hunger Task Force. She returned because she had an incredible experience, wants to help more of the public understand how food is fuel and believes that everyone has the right to feed themselves with good-tasting and nutritious food. In her role, she hands out food samples at community Stockbox distributions, aids in cooking classes taught in the McCarty Education Kitchen at the Hunger Task Force headquarters and updates Hunger Task Force’s online nutrition education content to amplify the database of cooking assets for the public.

Annastasia McClain is an incoming student at Milwaukee Area Technical College where she will be enrolling in the Nutrition and Dietetic Technician program in the fall. She is excited to serve as a SNAP-Ed intern because the role is a great steppingstone towards her goal of establishing a career in public health and nutrition education. Annastasia recently embarked on her own health journey and benefited greatly from lifestyle changes centered around nutrition and physical activity. In her role, she supports nutrition education classes, assists with cooking demonstrations, helps create engaging materials for diverse audiences and tailors nutrition education lessons for different age groups and household needs. Whether she is encouraging someone to try a new vegetable, helping stretch a food budget or simply being a supportive presence in a nutrition class, Annastasia is excited to learn, grow and make a meaningful difference.

Hunger Task Force is Milwaukee’s Free & Local food bank and Wisconsin’s anti-hunger leader. The organization’s core values are Dignity, Justice, Equity, Compassion and Stewardship. Hunger Task Force feeds people today by providing healthy and culturally appropriate food to hungry children, families and seniors in the community absolutely free of charge. Hunger Task Force also works to end future hunger by advocating for strong public policies and nutrition programs at the local, state and federal level.
