Apple Chicken Salad Sandwich

This flavorful recipe is the perfect snack, appetizer, or meal! Using the MyPlate as a guide, the apple chicken salad sandwich is a wonderful way to enjoy food from all of your food groups.

  • 3 cups chicken cooked and chopped
  • 1 apple chopped, about 1.5 cups
  • 1/2 cup diced red onion
  • 2 celery ribs chopped
  • 1/4 cup raisins or golden raisins
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/3 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 Tbsp mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
  • Loaf whole-wheat bread


  • Chop the cooked chicken, celery, and apple into small pieces. Finely dice the red onion.
  • Place the chicken, celery, apple, onion, and raisins in a large bowl.
  • Combine the mayonnaise, yogurt, mustard, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Stir until smooth.
  • Pour the dressing over the salad ingredients in the bowl and stir until everything is coated.
  • Serve the chicken salad as a sandwich on whole-wheat bread.


You can use basked, rotisserie, or canned chicken. You can also substitute chicken for canned tuna.
