Partner of the Month: Milwaukee Jewish Day School | May 2024

May 24, 2024

Hunger Task Force isn’t just Milwaukee Free & Local food bank – we’re a community. We believe in the power of collaboration, and that’s why we’re thrilled to recognize our amazing supporters through “Partner of the Month,” a platform to celebrate the incredible local organizations, businesses and companies who join us in the fight against hunger. They donate food, volunteer their time, raise awareness and provide financial support – strengthening our work in preventing hunger and malnutrition by providing food to people in need today and by promoting social policies to achieve a hunger-free community tomorrow.

Milwaukee Jewish Day School

Todah Rabah to Milwaukee Jewish Day School (MJDS) for their unwavering commitment to ending hunger and nurturing a generation of compassionate changemakers within their vibrant school community. Their student-led learning approach, which emphasizes documentation, reflection, inquiry, evidence-based answers, and teamwork, aligns perfectly with our mission. We proudly recognize MJDS as our Partner of the Month for May 2024.

MJDS focuses on growth and process, allowing students to demonstrate their development over time. Each year, we welcome these young changemakers for a day of service, where they make a significant impact.

The Michael Kovnar Memorial Mitzvah Day is a beloved tradition at MJDS, honoring the memory of a student who passed away in 1999. Students commemorate Michael’s legacy by engaging in acts of kindness, embodying our core values of empathy, wonder, and tikkun olam—making the world a better place.

“We choose to partner with Hunger Task Force because our students understand the importance of having food on the table and they want to ensure children have enough to eat each day,” shares a representative from MJDS.

Huge thanks to the nearly 60 students and teachers from MJDS who volunteered at the Hunger Task Force Farm and our West Milwaukee headquarters this month for Mitzvah Day. These dedicated volunteers sorted 7,000 pounds of healthy food donations, packed 80 Stockboxes for low-income seniors, and helped weed and steward natural areas at The Farm!
