Anne Brown and CBS 58 Support the Work of Hunger Task Force On and Off Screen
Hunger Task Force is 100% community-supported and is Milwaukee’s only Free & Local food bank. Anne Brown, General Manager of CBS 58, has championed the station’s support of Hunger Task Force since she joined the team in 2020.
“Our partnership is really purposeful. We get to proudly be that megaphone – or mouthpiece – and shine a light on food security in our community and Hunger Task Force’s innovative solutions to feeding people in need across Milwaukee County,” shares Anne.
All year long reporters and photojournalists from CBS 58 work with the Hunger Task Force team and network partners to share stories of impact and educate viewers about the agency’s strategic responses to hunger from the Hunger Task Force Mobile Market and Hunger Task Force Farm to the CSFP DoorDash program and community nutrition program.
“We reach a lot of people. People look to us for clarification, answers and transparency for a lot of different reasons. We’re part of this community and we think part of that obligation is to serve it and do that well by educating the public,” adds Anne.
Annually, on the Friday before Thanksgiving, the CBS 58 team hosts a Drive-Thru Food Drive at American Family Field to collect healthy holiday food items for Hunger Task Force to distribute – free of charge – to a local network of meal programs, shelters and food pantries in Milwaukee County. From frozen turkeys to canned green beans and corn, the food drive collects healthy holiday foods for individuals and families facing food insecurity to enjoy on Thanksgiving Day.
“I think the food drive is a highly visible event that shows our commitment to the community” says Anne. “When you see people drive up, and our staff get to great and thank them, they are so excited to be a part of it. Each year I see individuals of all backgrounds and families of all sizes and that shows me how much our community wants to help each other and we are so proud to be a vehicle to enable them do so.”
Since the start of 2026, 15% of all visits to Hunger Task Force’s network of food pantries has been from first-time visitors. Holiday drives like the CBS 58 Food Drive, in addition to stories on CBS 58 newscasts throughout the year, help ensure Hunger Task Force can continue to meet the increasing community need amidst the rising costs of inflation.
