Meet Hunger Relief Federation Member Moe’s Kitchen and Food Pantry
Hunger Task Force is the founding member of the Hunger Relief Federation, which is a statewide association of independent food banks and food pantries. Moe’s Kitchen and Food Pantry, a member of the federation since 2021, is dedicated to fighting local food insecurity.
The pantry opened in 2017 in Pembine, Wisconsin, and began by helping 20 households every month. As the community need continues to grow, the pantry currently serves more than 75 households monthly.
“The need here is just unbelievable,” said Linda Janikowski, Pantry Coordinator at Moe’s Kitchen and Food Pantry. “We are proud to make a big difference in our little community.”
The organization distributes healthy food boxes called ‘shares’ twice per month filled with meats, canned fruits, canned vegetables rice, noodles, cereal and other healthy items. When the pantry is not open for food distribution, community members are encouraged to call when they need assistance. A pantry team member will open the doors so the individual or family can shop for what they need.
The pantry has turned to Hunger Task Force to help with capacity building. Hunger Task Force has connected Moe’s Kitchen and Food Pantry with shelving to increase the amount of food storage onsite.
Linda has also advocated on behalf of the pantry’s clients by contacting her state representative to support federal nutrition programs and state initiatives to make food more accessible. Moe’s Kitchen and Food Pantry is open on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month from 10 a.m. – noon.
