Prairie Gold Organics and Hunger Task Force Partner to Provide Farm Fresh Eggs to Food Insecure Households in Milwaukee

Hunger Task Force is proud to be Wisconsin’s anti-hunger leader and Free & Local food bank. Since 2021, Hunger Task Force has partnered with Prairie Gold Organics, in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, to procure farm fresh eggs to distribute to families and individuals visiting a network food pantry.

“When I was watching the news during the COVID-19 pandemic, it hit me that so many families were losing their income and they weren’t going to be able to afford high quality and fresh foods. I called Hunger Task Force to see how we could set up a donation program for affected households,” said Michael Gutschenritter, owner of Prairie Gold Organics.

Since that phone call, thousands of cartons of eggs have been infused into Hunger Task Force’s pantry inventory. The partnership grew when Hunger Task Force contracted Prairie Gold Organics to provide eggs for the Tribal Elder Food Box and deepened even more earlier this year as a participating producer in the Connecting Farms to Families program that increases access individuals and families have to fresh food at emergency food providers across the state.

“As a participating producer in the programs, we provide 50 cases of eggs weekly. That equates to 750 dozen eggs,” adds Michael. “It has become a part of our company identity to consistently partner with Hunger Task Force to ensure all households have opportunities to enjoy farm fresh, organic eggs.”

As a father, Michael takes immense pride in knowing the certified organic eggs from Prairie Gold Organics will reach children living in or on the edge of poverty – especially during the summer when childhood hunger is at its peak.

“It sends like chills down my spine just thinking about the fact that young people are going to be able to have really, really high-quality breakfast because of this relationship,” he shares. “It’s so important for young people to get fresh air and exercise and eat extremely well. Their brains are developing and eggs are the best source of protein for a human.”

Prairie Gold Organics dedicates 25% of its total production to hunger relief efforts through its relationship with Hunger Task Force. The longstanding relationship between the organizations is a win-win, ensuring a market for Prairie Gold Organics eggs while consistently providing high quality protein for individuals and families visiting a partner emergency food pantry.
